A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to join a dinner hosted by Admiral Bill Owens, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the first Clinton administration. His views centered on how to spend money on the military and the need for a new, combined military, diplomatic, cultural doctrine to address the threats of terrorism etc more holistically. He was bold, articulate and right on. Hope he gets to put these views into practice in office! See his book that discusses at least the military aspects of such views - Lifting the Fog of War. See also his intelligent testimony to Congress.
