Great new board game - Sorreesi

Sorreesi is a brand new board game, invented by my kids.

It combines the best of Sorry and Parcheesi. It is incredibly fun. We have played it for hours and hours. Below are the official rules:

Pieces:

  • 4 “Sorry” pawns in each of four colors
  • 4 “Parcheesi” pawns in each of four colors
  • Two dice
  • One deck of Sorry cards
  • “Parcheesi” board

Set up:

  • Combine the four sets of 4 sorry pawns each and four sets of 4 parcheesi pawns each into four sets of 8 each
  • Place these into the four “base” or “start” sections (one tiger, one elephant, one camel, one ox) on the Parcheesi board

Action:

  • Players roll and move clockwise, in turns (for between 2 and 4 players)
  • Each player both rolls the dice and picks from the Sorry card each turn
    - Rolling the dice first
    - Then drawing from the Sorry card deck
  • In order to leave “base” or “start” you must either roll 5 with the dice or draw a Sorry card that allows you to “move from start”
  • In general you can move the total number of moves of the combined dice and the moves instructed in the card
  • Or you may split your moves apart by the number on each die and the card
  • You may also move the number of just one die and “pass” the number of the other.
  • You may not “pass” the instructions of the “Sorry” card
    - If 5 dice and or the right “Sorry card” you may leave base
    - Role again with doubles
    - If you roll three doubles in a row, you must send the most recently moved piece back to base/start
  • In order to send a piece “home” you must roll (and or draw a card) with the exact number of moves to enter (the 8 spaces before each player’s “home” are safe)
  • When player places a pawn "home", they receive 10 bonus moves, they must use them in exactly 10 spaces, and be used in the same turn or be forfeited
  • Once a player has moved any pawn from any combination they cannot move back

Winning:

  • The first player to move all eight of their pieces into “home” wins the game

Special moves/rules:

  • Unlike Parcheesi, you cannot block another player’s moves (or your own) by having two pawns on the same space.
  • You may have as many of the same player’s pawns on the same space as you like
  • If an opponent lands on a space with another player’s pawn(s) they send all of those players pawns back to base/start (unless the opponent’s pawn(s) are on a safe space – see below for “fighting”
    - For each of these opponent pawns sent back to base/start, the player receives 20 bonus moves
    - These bonus moves must be used during this turn or be forfeited
    - Bonus moves may be split between the players pieces but the moves must be in exact multiples of twenty
  • If a player lands on a safe space occupied by any opponent pawns, they have to “fight”
    - To “fight” each player who occupies the same safe space rolls a single die
    - Whoever rolls the highest wins
    - Loosers must send all the pawns on that safe space back to their base
    - (Exception – the Sorry Card for switching places with an opponent, cannot be down with an opponent’s pawn if it is on a safe space)

Teams:

  • Two players may work together as a team
  • If a team member lands on a space occupied by a teammate, they do not send them back to base/start

Have fun!!
